CAN announces preliminary squad for World Cricket League

Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) announced 18-member preliminary squad for the ICC World Cricket League (WCL) Division-V tournament.
As usual, Binod Das is the captain of the team while young Paras Khadka is his deputy. Other players in the team are Paresh Lohani, Shakti Gauchan, Mehboob Alam, Sanjam Regmi, Sharad Vesawkar, Dipendra Chaudhary, Gyanendra Malla, Mahesh Chhetry, Raj Kumar Pradhan, Amrit Bhattarai, Basanta Regmi, Dhirendra Chand, Manjeet Shrestha, Pramod Basnet, Antim Thapa and Yashwant Subedi.
According to chief selector Bijaya Kumar Sharma, the players were selected on the basis of their performance in the Springwood Senior One Day National League held in March-April. The final 14-member-team will be selected later this month.
Sri Lankan Roy Luke Dias is the coach and CAN General Secretary Tanka Prasad Paneru the manager. The tournament is being played in Jersey from May 21-31 where Afghanistan, Bahamas, Botswana, Germany, Mozambique, Norway, Singapore, the United States, Japan and Vanuatu will also take part in the tournament.
The top two teams from the qualifiers will go to Division IV and from where they have to fight again with Division III and Division II teams before fighting against Cayman Island and Papua New Guinea for the two spots in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers.
Meanwhile, Malaysia have been confirmed as the hosts for 2008 ACC Trophy being played from July 25 to August 3. nepalnews.com bt Apr 16 08
